Thomas777 and I continue our series where we watch a movie in its entirety and comment on its cultural significance.
The tenth movie we watched and talked about is "Colors," a 1988 look at the police and gang culture of 1980's Los Angeles. It was directed by Dennis Hopper who went to great pains to research exactly what was happening on the ground in the middle of what essentially had become a war zone. It follows a veteran detective (Robert Duvall) training up a newly transferred rookie played by Sean Penn on the police side, and rival street gangs on the other whose members are played by familiar names such as Don Cheadle and Trinidad Silva.
